With the Heatwave hitting us this Australia Day Long Weekend, I’m sure many of you will be planning a day out to the beach.
We’re really spoilt for choice in the St George area. Here are my top beaches I think are worthy of your Australia Day celebrations:
Location: The Grand Parade, Brighton-Le-Sands
Brighton-Le-Sands Beach is the local’s go to for a family day. The ocean has no surf – perfect for the little ones and for those who don’t like rough waters. The beach spans for a few kilometres so you won’t have to worry about finding space to get a tan!
There’s plenty of restaurants, cafes, and public amenities just at The Grand Parade.
There is parking available.
Dogs are allowed on-leash between 10am-6pm so bring all members of the family!
Location: The Grand Parade, Ramsgate Beach
Just a little bit further south from Bright-Le-Sands is Ramsgate beach. It’s smaller and generally less crowded.
Parking is available.
Dolls Point Beach & Cook Park
Location: Russell Avenue, Sandringham
Park your car at the dedicated parking area in Peter Depena Reserve on Malua Street or just along Russell Avenue and enter a more secluded beach only the locals know about. Just behind the beach is Cook Park – perfect for a picnic and some BBQ. There’s plenty of soft sand and lush grass for the kids to run around.
Dogs are welcome on leash in Cook Park and along the walkway.
Location: Carwar Avenue, Carss Park
Carss Park is the best spot if you’ve got kids. The beach is small and secluded, and there’s a large playground just behind. The water is very calm and the sand is flat. There’s plenty of picnic facilities and shade. Try the bush walk behind the playground if you’ve still got energy!
And, if the idea of a picnic BBQ is to much, visit the Cars Park Café and Grill.
You’ll see the parking area right behind the park on Carwar Avenue.
Has this blog persuaded you to move to the St George Area? If so, let’s catch up over coffee – maybe even at one of these beaches! Happy Australia Day!
